7.3.2009 | PATRIK ELIAS NOW FOUR POINTS AWAY FROM HISTORY

Patrik Elias is on the cusp of becoming the all-time point leader in Devils history. His goal against the Islanders on Saturday afternoon brought his career point total to 701, four shy of John Maclean’s franchise record. Patrik’s tally came 6:48 into the third period on the power play after Islander left-winger Jeff Tambellini took a Boarding penalty. Patrik redirected Paul Martin’s point shot on his backhand, through his own legs and to the back of the net. It was Patrik’s third power-play goal in five games and his sixth point in as many meetings with the Islanders this season (2g-4a). His 69 points (26g-43a) ties his 2006-2007 season total with 17 games still left to play. The Islanders, who sit at the bottom of the NHL standings, went on to win the contest 7-3 in front of a crowd of 15,524 at Nassau Coliseum. The Devils meet the Calgary Flames on home ice Tuesday night at 7 p.m. (Dan Altano).

3.3.2009 | PATRIK ELIAS STRIKES AGAIN AS DEVILS BEAT TORONTO 3-2

It took five shots and several quality chances for Patrik Elias to solve Toronto goaltender Vesa Toskala on Tuesday night, but when he finally broke through, he made it count. With New Jersey on the power-play early in the third period, Patrik blasted a return pass from Jamie Langenbrunner from the right circle that sailed over Toskala’s glove to give his team the 2-1 lead. Paul Martin drew a secondary assist in the pretty passing play. After the Maple Leafs tied the game late, defenseman Johnny Oduya scored in overtime for the Devil’s fourth straight win, bringing the squad within six points of first place Boston in the Eastern Conference. Patrik’s goal was his ninth on the power-play this season and twenty-fifth overall. Next up, the Devils head to Long Island on Sunday to face the struggling Islanders at 2 p.m. (Dan Altano)

28.2.2009 | PATRIK ELIAS CONTRIBUTES TO ROMP OF PANTHERS

Patrik Elias collected two assists in the Devil’s 7-2 win over the Florida Panthers Saturday afternoon at the Prudential Center. Patrik helped set up Travis Zajac on the Power Play in the second period and in the third left a tape-to-tape drop pass for Dainius Zubrus who broke through the defense to score the seventh Devil goal of the day. Patrik’s effort improved his assist total to 43 and moved him within six career points of John Maclean for the all-time Devil record. Other Devil goal scorers were Zach Parise (2), David Clarkson, Brendan Shanahan and Jamie Langenbrunner. The victory was the team’s sixth straight on home ice. Devils meet the Philadelphia Flyers tomorrow at 1 p.m. (Dan Altano)

26.2.2009 | PATRIK ELIAS SHINES IN WIN OVER AVALANCHE

Patrik Elias’s 24th goal of the season helped propel the Devils over the Colorado Avalance 4-0 on Thursday night in front of a jam packed Prudential Center. On a night that marked the return of Devil’s goaltender, Martin Brodeur after missing 50 games with an elbow injury, Elias and the Devils took a 6-point lead in the Atlantic Conference over the second place Flyers.

After numerous first period scoring chances, Elias scored a much needed Power Play goal 8:46 into the second period. When Paul Martin’s wide point shot caromed off the boards and sailed in front of the net, Elias rushed to the puck and slammed a quick backhand shot under the left glove of sprawling goaltender, Andrew Raycroft to make it 2-0. The steady winger’s goal increased his point total to 65 points, one shy of 8th place among league leaders. He finished with 5 shots on net.

Jamie Langenbrunner, Zach Parise and Travis Zajac scored the other New Jersey goals as Martin Brodeur collected his 99th career shutout.

Next up, the Devils stay at home on Saturday, February 28 to face the Florida Panthers at 1 p.m. The team looks to avenge the 4-0 loss they were handed by the Panthers on February 17th at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida. (Dan Altano)

21.2.2009 | PATRIK ELIAS CONTINUES SPARKLING SEASON FOR NEW JERSEY

Over the past couple of months, Devils’ winger Patrik Elias has remained a fixture on the National Hockey League’s top ten scoring list. Elias has been a model of consistency, being held pointless for three consecutive games only once all season long. When Patrik was held scoreless in two games against Florida and Tampa Bay in February, it marked the first such occasion since December, a span of 26 games. And even though he was held officially scoreless against the Lightning on February 19th, he was still a difference maker for the Devils with his shootout goal that beat goaltender Karri Ramo to solidify New Jersey’s 3-2 victory. (J. Cavanagh)

20.2.2009 | PATRIK ELIAS MOVES CLOSER TO DEVILS’ ALL-TIME SCORING RECORD

Patrik Elias continues to solidify his reputation as one of the greatest New Jersey Devils of all time. A look at the Devils record book will back that up. Earlier this season the Czech left wing passed Scott Niedermayer as New Jersey’s all-time assist leader with 365. The next team record to fall should be the career points record set by John MacLean who had 701 points in a New Jersey uniform from 1983-84 to 1997-98. After the first 59 games of the 2008-09 season, Elias stood in second place on the Devils all-time point list at 692. It should only be a matter of time before Patrik becomes the top scorer in team history. (J. Cavanagh)

23.1.2009 | Devils lead the Atlantic Division

Devils concluded twelve days road trip with five winning games of six. Wednesday night they were back on home ice for the first time since January 8. They beat the Montreal Canadian 5 : 2 and took a leadership in the Atlantic Division for the first time this season. "We played good, simple and smart hockey. We were patient, scored at the right time and with a great support of our both goalies, we found the right way to win the games. That showed the strength of our team. It was also great to spend some time with the guys off the ice, that gave us a chance to bond and have a good time. For example, on our day off in Vancouver, we went to play curling which we all enjoyed" commented on Devils useful road trip Patrik Elias. "Tonight we did not give to our opponents much momentum even though they scored 2 power play goals but that was the only time when they put pressure on us.We played well defensively with patience and waited for their mistakes which we took advantage of and end up with the game victory" said Patrik Elias after the game. He recorded 54 points after 47 games of the season and more than two weeks ranks among the top ten most productive NHL players. (pd)

09.1.2009 | Patrik Elias approaching magic "100" milestone

Patrik Elias is having a great season. Among Czech players, he has no competition. Up till now he got 46 points (18G/28A ) and has moved ninth spot in NHL stats. Moreover, after 40 games, he is more productive, than he has ever been in his career. Even in his best season (2000/01), when he recorded 96 points (40+56) and was third in NHL stats, he had after 40 games "only" 39 points. New Jersey still remembers the amazing show performed by the offensive line called "EASy" (Elias, Sykora, Arnotte). This season, Patrik has a chance to pass another his milestone. If he keeps current average (1,18 point a game) and would not be stoped by illness or injury, he'd get in the remaining 43 games another 51 points and by a single one he’d break his current 96 record, and thereafter he will not be far from the magic "100" milestone. Good luck, Patrik!

"I´m happy with the result of the game tonight. We were initiating the game and it was very important to score right away. One thing we should improve on is to play better with a lead, that means better puck control and that way control the game" said Patrik Elias .

24.12.2008 | White Christmas in West Orange

New Jersey is covered in a glimmering coat of snow. In a lovely house in West Orange, were Patrik Elias lives with his wife Petra shines a beautiful Christmas tree. The lab Devonte naps around the fireplace, everywhere is the sound of carols and the smell of Christmas cookies. Wonderful Christmas coziness! Patrik and his Devils have a full game schedule even in this beautiful pre-Holiday time. They play almost every other day. Sometimes, they have to go on a trip to the opponent's team. Patrik upholds the strick pre-game regime; a healthy food, practices and games are changed with plenty of sleep and rest. Before games, I perform with Petra several rituals for Patrik's good luck. Looks like it works. Patrik is amazing on ice. He pulls the Devils from one victory to another and gets points in every game. In our free time, we take long nature walks with Devonte, enjoy the snow and watch Czech Christmas movies. We have wonderful time together and wish that these happy days and Patrik's great form will last as long as possible. Merry Christmas!

Devils gained tonight next two points for the winning game in overtime 2 : 1 against the Montreal Canadians. Parise to the winning goal and confirmed his role of the team leader.

29.11.2008 | Pittsburgh has broken the Devils' winning streak

Last night the Devils played away at the Mellon Arena in Pittsburgh, losing 1-4 to the Penguins and brining an end to their five game winning streak. “Today’s match was a disappointment. The Penguins are an important team in the division. Compared to the last match, where we dictated the game, we waited to see what the other team did and they had more luck and were more successful in the end-play. The result shows that this was not the right approach,” commented Patrik Elias, whose pass contributed to the Devil’s only goal.

23.11.2008 | Eleven points for Patrik Elias in the last five games!

Patrik Elias has confirmed his excellent form by racking up 11 points in the last five matches! In the match, the fourth win in a row for the Devils, his three passes helped the team beat Tampa Bay 7-3 and made him the second star of the game. "Recently I’ve been playing excellently. I’m with the same players (B.Gionta, D.Zubrus) in one offense, which enables us to play really well. The most important thing is I believe in myself, I control the game and hockey is fun again," beamed Patrik Elias after the match.

21.11.2008 | The third home win in a row

Today the Devils gained another two points for their 5-2 victory over the New York Islanders. "You can see that the team has got a lot of its confidence back. We played the last three matches with poise and balance, which gave us two goals. The next five games will be away and I’m sure our positive mood and good results will stay with us," were the comments coming from a satisfied Patrik Elias, who earned himself another two points for the Canadian scoring.

20.11.2008 | The Devils are on a winning streak

Last night, for the first time in seven games, the Devils managed to win in regular time and gaining another two points for their 3-1 win over the Florida Panthers. Once again, Patrik Elias showed he is a leading personality and a key player on the team. His goal and assists helped towards the victory and, for the third time now, got him nominated as one the best three players of the match. "Technically the game was relatively simple and not too attractive for the audience, which is due to Florida’s style. We had the match under control apart from the 2nd period, when we only had one shot at goal, which I managed to get in. In the last third we again took control of the puck and the game, which we brought to a comfortable end. These two points are very important for us," said Patrik Elias after the match.

15.11.2008 | The Devils finish there run of loses

Last night’s game against the Washington Capitals was both dramatic and incredibly interesting. It ended in a win for the home team after penalty shootouts. Throughout the game the score was pretty much even with the Devils leading 4-5 up to the last minute of the final period. It was then that A.Ove?¨kin evened the score at 5-5 in the last second of regulation play. Following a goalless sudden death, Devils finally succeeded in penalty shout outs. Patrik Elias contributed 2 goals and 1 assist and was nominated 2nd MVP. "From my point of view today’s game was like the previous loses, except this time we were lucky, we seized the chance and got more goals. This win is important to regain our peace of mind, which we lost due to the recent defeats," were Patrik Elias’s comments on the match.

12.11.2008 | NHL All Star Game 2009

5.11.2008 | The Devils can rely on K. Weekes

Last night the Devils showed us that even with a weaker team and without M. Brodeur in goal they can play good hockey and win. The 4-3 victory over Tampa Bay, after penalty shootouts, was important for strengthening the entire team’s confidence and even more so for goalkeeper Kevin Weekes, who has been replacing the injured M. Brodeur in the Devils’ goal for the last four months. “The trainer put me in the role of a defensive forward against Tampa Bay’s best offence, this enabled us to create a number of important chances. I’m glad I contributed two goals and a pass to today’s victory, which is very important for us all but especially so for Kevin Weekes, who showed that we can rely on him,” said a satisfied Patrik Elias after the match.

3.11.2008 | The Devils go down to the Buffalo Sabres

The Devils went up against the Buffalo Sabres with a decidedly weakened team due to health problems among a number of key players including M. Brodeur, R. Hol?k, P. Martin, B. Rolston and A.Greena. The match didn’t go the Devils’ way, which was reflected by the score, 2-0 Buffalo. “Today’s match looked as though four different teams were playing. In the first half the Sabres clearly dominated, they easily outplayed us, they showed skill and speed and we weren’t able to create a chance. It was only thanks to the great performance by K. Weekes that we were trailing by just one goal. In the second half we were able to take the initiative and we created several chances for goals, but at the key moment we didn’t keep a cool head, we were too rash and we couldn’t get past the Sabres’ goalkeeper,” stated Patrik Elias.

1.11.2008 | The Devils win their tenth match despite injury to M. Brodeur

After the last three loses, the Devils’ home game last night against the Atlanta Thrashers was a tremendous 6-1 victory. Patrik Elias got 2 points for the statistics with a goal and an assist and was awarded 2nd MVP. “I’m glad that we have finally won. In the first two periods we played very patiently getting good position on the puck. We created a lot of chances, which we successfully turned into goals and we started doing well in the power plays. In the last period we slacked off a bit, giving the opposition more shots on goal. In the middle of the match Martin Brodeur was injured, so Kevin Weekes stepped into goal, making some excellent saves. I believe that the next games will see us carry on with this winning streak,” said Patrik Elias after the match

On October 30, Patrik Elias, along with a number of celebrities from the social, cultural and political life of the CR, attended the gala opening of the Czech National Building in New York City, which will be used to represent the Czech Republic in the USA.

29.10.2008 | The Devils had a bad time of it against Toronto.

The match got off to a bad start as Patrik Elias was hit in the face by the puck. During the match he had to go for an X-ray at the local hospital; fortunately he was not seriously injured. Patrik managed to get back on the ice just before the end of the 2nd period and played out the rest of the game, including overtime, with the utmost commitment. The match ended in a 5-6 win for Toronto after penalty shootouts. Patrik was the only one on the team to score in the shootouts but it wasn’t enough for a Devils victory. "It took me a while to get back into the game. My face was all swollen and my muscles were stiff, but it went well, I had a lot of chances and it’s a shame it didn’t go in. It is very unusual for our team to let the opponent get 48 shots on goals, we didn’t get good position and we weren’t patient enough. The power-plays are our weak point. I believe that I’ll be turning chances into goals and we’ll get our confidence back, which is very important for a team’s success," was Patrik Elias’s post match comment.

18.10.2008 | Patrik Elias breaks the record!

The New Jersey Devils' record books needed updating as of Saturday, October 18 when Patrik Elias broke the club's record for total number of career assists. His 366th career assist comes in this his thirteenth season wearing a Devils' jersey. "I am glad to have beaten the team record," Patrik Elias announced after beating the Washington Capitals. Prior to the game, Elias and defender Scotty Niedermayer shared the record at 364 assists. With only one assist needed to claim the record for himself, he quickly followed up with a second. "I was very pleased with the game, Washington is a good defensive team. What was good about our game was that we created lots of chances and we showed them we know how to play offensively. Really we should play like this all the time and not just when it is necessary," said Elias. Elias had been waiting since last season to join the ranks of the record-holders, when he tied the record of his former teammate Niedermayer in a match against the NY Islanders on April 1, 2008.

But Saturday's match in Washington was exceptional on two counts. Elias's first (record-breaking) assist in the thirteenth minute was to the young Czech forward Petr Vrána, who scored in his NHL debut. Only twelve other Devils have done the same.

"I appreciate it and I'm really happy that I helped Petr get his first goal in the NHL," said Elias.

Vrána's introduction "to the big world" was also symbolic. It was just under twelve years ago (December 12, 1996) that Elias scored his first NHL goal, also assisted by a fellow Czech - Robert Holík in a match against the Boston Bruins that the Devils went on to win 7-4! Holík made his mark in other ways in Elias's career. Elias's first assist in the NHL came on December 5, 1996, two days after he was called up from the Devils' farm team in Albany, when he passed to Holík, who scored the winning goal against Calgary (2-1). "It's great that my first assist and this one too were both for Czech players," beamed Elias. Elias has a chance to set yet another milestone for New Jersey. To beat the record for total number of career goals he needs just 81 more (347 - John MacLean), and for total career points only 69 more points (701 - John MacLean).

16.10.2008 | One more assist and Patrik Elias breaks the record

One more assist and Patrik Elias is the club's new record-holder. In his thirteen seasons with the Devils Elias has already made 364 assists. He tied the current record held by the defender Scotty Niedermayer last season on April 1, 2008 in a match against the NY Islanders. The game against the Islanders went well for Elias, he assisted in the winning goal from Zach Parise and also scored a goal. The record may well fall on Thursday or Friday when the Devils are back on the ice in Atlanta. One more assist pushes Elias ahead of his former team-mate. As a point of interest, Elias's first assist in the NHL came on December 5, 1996 in his second match of the season and just two days after having been called up from the farm team in Albany. He made the assist to Robert Hol?k, who scored the winning goal in a match against Calgary (2-1). "It's a great feeling," was the brief comment from Elias. December's mission was a breakthrough for Elias. It was a week later, on December 12, 1996, that he got his first goal in the NHL. In that match against Boston his assists helped the Devils win 7-4.

Somewhat symbolically, they presented Robert Hol?k as a precise goal scorer. "I had a great evening thanks to Robert," were Elias's words from that evening almost twelve years ago.

Elias also has the opportunity to pass another New Jersey milestone. To beat the record for total number of career goals he needs just another 81 (347 - John MacLean), and only another 71 points to beat the record for points (701 - John MacLean).

12.10.2008 | Patrik Elias has a great start to the new season

NJ Devils vs. NY Islanders 2-1 / Before the start of the first match Elias not only believed in himself, but in the whole team. The opening match on Friday night against the Islanders was, as he predicted, well played and the Devils got their first two points thanks to goals from Zach Parise and Patrik Elias. The goalkeeper, M.Brodeur, also put in a sterling performance and all three were made men of the match.

PIT Penguins vs. NJ Devils 1-2 / On Saturday evening the Devils played away to the Penguins. Up to the end of the 3rd period the Devils had yet to score despite taking far more shots on M. A. Fleury's goal. This all came to a head in the 57th minute with a goal by Patrik Elias, tying the game at 1-1 in regulation.

Devils won the match in overtime with a goal from Z. Parise.

“I am glad that we got the maximum points in our first two games even though at the start we were a bit nervous due to the emotions and the weeklong pause in matches. But we had everything under control on Saturday. Although we didn't manage to use the initial chances, the team was patient and kept the desire to win,” said Elias at the end of the second match.

10.10.2008 | Patrik Elias's trip to Belize

In September Elias, as the Czech Republic's Good Will Ambassador to UNICEF, visited the Central American state of Belize where UNICEF has a number of programs to support poor and sick children. The aim of the trip was, among other things, to see how UNICEF works on the ground and how UNICEF's financial resources are used in those places where help is necessary.

"I am glad that I had the opportunity to see for myself how and where the aid goes and the work UNICEF does in these areas with these programmes," Elias stated upon his return from Belize.

This year we should have had a better result against the Islanders, which would have given us a better start to the season," Patrik Elias said a couple of hours before the match.
